Third meeting of Azerbaijan–Korea Intergovernmental Commission held in Seoul

The third meeting of the Joint Commission on Economic Cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the Republic of Korea took place today in Seoul, South Korea.

Co-Chairman of the Joint Commission from the Republic of Korea, Deputy Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy of this country Jeong Dae-jin welcomed the delegation of Azerbaijan and said that Azerbaijan and Korea are friendly countries with high economic and cultural ties. He noted that last year the 30th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Korea was celebrated.

During the meeting, Samir Mammadov, co-chairman of the Joint Commission from the Republic of Azerbaijan and Deputy Minister of Digital Development and Transport, informed about last year’s macroeconomic indicators of our country and trade volumes between the two countries. The deputy minister said that Azerbaijan is the biggest trade partner of Korea in the South Caucasus region.

Samir Mammadov briefed the Korean delegation on the reconstruction and rehabilitation work carried out in the territories of Azerbaijan liberated from Armenian occupation as a result of the 44-day Patriotic War. He pointed out that the territories liberated from occupation are being reconstructed on the basis of the smart city and smart village concepts and the region has been declared a ‘green energy’ zone.

The deputy minister provided information on the work carried out in the field of transport and digitalization in Azerbaijan, as well as on the measures taken to facilitate transportation along the Middle Corridor. In particular, he stressed that the implementation of the Zangezur Corridor will contribute to stability and development in the region and enhance its transit potential.

During the meeting, extensive discussions were held on mutual investments, opportunities for cooperation in the fields of industry, trade, agriculture, energy, education, health, culture and tourism.

At the end of the meeting, the Minutes of the third meeting of the Joint Commission on Economic Cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the Republic of Korea was signed.

It should be noted that the Joint Commission was established on the basis of the “Agreement on Economic Cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the Republic of Korea”, signed in Baku on 28 August 2012.
