Working Group on Innovation holds meeting

The Working Group on Innovation discussed the results of monitoring and evaluation of the “Socio-economic development strategy of the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2022–2026” for the first half of 2023.

At the online meeting, the Working Group Chairman, Deputy Minister of Digital Development and Transport Farid Ahmadov presented information on the “Socio-economic development strategy of the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2022–2026”, as well as the working groups established to implement the strategy. Farid Ahmadov said that it is important to ensure effective coordination between the members of the working group in order to implement measures related to the “Creative and Innovative Society”, which is the 3.2 objective of the strategy. The chairman of the working group also spoke about the measures taken by the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport within the framework of the working group.

Deputy Executive Director of the Center for Analysis and Communication of Economic Reforms Rashad Huseynov noted that the purpose of monitoring and evaluation of measures taken within the framework of the Strategy is to conduct result-oriented work and ensure the implementation of measures.

Deputy Chairman of the Working Group Agil Asadov said that the measures implemented to ensure the development of the innovation ecosystem can be assessed as achievements. This includes the steps taken by the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport, in particular the establishment of the venture fund Caucasus Ventures and the measures taken to restore the functioning of public services.

The members of the working group then gave their opinions on the report, as well as their suggestions for the next reporting periods.

The Working Group on Innovation includes the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Defence Industry, Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Energy, Central Bank, State Customs Committee, State Committee for Work with Diaspora, State Agency for Public Service and Social Innovations  under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Azerbaijan State Water Resources Agency, Land Reclamation and Water Management OJSC, State Migration Service, State Border Service, Intellectual Property Agency, National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan, Center for Analysis and Coordination of the Fourth Industrial Revolution of the Ministry of Economy (C4IR), Department of Informatization of Education System of the Ministry of Science and Education, Authorized representatives of the DOST Digital Innovation Center of the Agency for Sustainable and Operational Social Security of the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of Population, and the Agrarian Research Center of the Ministry of Agriculture.

It should be noted that in order to ensure full, timely and effective implementation of the measures envisaged in the “Socio-economic development strategy of the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2022–2026”, as well as coordination of the activities of the relevant state bodies, eight working groups were established to this end by the order of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated 12 June 2023.
