Regional workshop on "Road Safety" kicks off in Baku

The Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies of the Republic of Azerbaijan together with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) organized a regional workshop on the theme “Road Safety” in Baku today.

 

The event, which will last two days, was organized with the aim of exchanging experience and conducting discussions between representatives of organizations and agencies operating in the relevant field, familiarizing themselves with achievements in road safety and international experience, in particular, programs adopted in the Asia-Pacific region.

 

The workshop is attended by experts from the countries of the region, the UNESCAP secretariat, as well as the United States and Korea.

 

Speaking at the event, UNESCAP representative Ishtiaq Ahmed gave detailed information about road safety and presented relevant statistics.

 

In his speech, head of the department of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies Shahin Ismayilov noted that special attention is paid to road safety issues in Azerbaijan.

 

He emphasized that the “State Program on Road Safety in the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2019-2023” was approved by the decree of President Ilham Aliyev on December 27, 2018.

 

The main goal of the state program is to take necessary measures to reduce the number of road traffic accidents, in particular, fatal accidents and bodily harm, as well as reduce the amount of damage to the economy and ecology of the country.

 

The workshop is continuing with presentations and discussions by participants on road safety.
