Presidency of International Transport Forum Summit handed over to Azerbaijan

The International Transport Forum 2025 Summit is taking place in Leipzig (Germany) on 21–23 May.
More than 1,200 delegates from over 80 countries are attending the summit. Our country is represented at the summit by a delegation headed by Deputy Minister of Digital Development and Transport Rahman Hummatov.
The event is dedicated to the theme “Transport Resilience to Global Shocks”. Summit participants discussed ways to ensure the resilience of transport systems against the backdrop of challenges posed by disruptive factors such as natural disasters, pandemics, cyber threats and geopolitical crises.
Speaking at a meeting of the Council of Transport Ministers, Deputy Minister Rahman Hummatov spoke about Azerbaijan’s steps to create transport systems that are resilient to global shocks. He informed about the digitalization of urban infrastructure, including the ongoing “Digital Twin” project, as well as the work being done to develop environmentally friendly and sustainable transport systems. The deputy minister also underlined Azerbaijan’s active participation in regional transport projects and the importance of international cooperation in this field. He noted that within the framework of reconstruction work in the Karabakh region in the post-conflict period, large investments have been made in the construction of modern motorways, airports, reconstruction of urban infrastructure. This is of great importance in terms of revival of the region and restoration of transport links.
At the event, the presidency of the International Transport Forum Summit 2025–2026 passed from Chile to Azerbaijan. Our country was elected to the post by unanimous decision of the member states in 2023 and is assuming the presidency for the first time.
“For Azerbaijan, this presidency is not just a task, but a continuation of our great efforts to promote more innovative, environmentally friendly and interconnected transport systems. We know that transport is not just infrastructure, but a tool for economic development, regional cooperation and social integration,” Rahman Hummatov told a ministerial press conference.
Within the framework of the summit, the deputy minister also held meetings with delegations of a number of countries, during which they exchanged views on issues of mutual interest and prospects for cooperation.
An exhibition was also organized at the event, where International Transport Forum partners presented their products, services and innovations. The stand of the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport of Azerbaijan was visited by Secretary General of the International Transport Forum Young Tae Kim, ministers and heads of delegations participating in the summit. The visitors were provided with detailed information on Azerbaijan’s achievements in the transport sector.
It should be noted that the International Transport Forum has 69 members. Azerbaijan has been a full member of this organization since 1998. The summit, regularly held since 2008, plays an important role in shaping global transport policy.
