National Cybersecurity Agency established on the basis of the Electronic Security Service
President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has signed a Decree on improving governance in the field of cybersecurity. Under the Decree, the National Cybersecurity Agency, a public legal entity, has been established under the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport on the basis of the Electronic Security Service of the Ministry.
The new Agency will be responsible for regulation and oversight in the field of cybersecurity in the country, as well as for strengthening the resilience of information infrastructure, detecting and preventing cyber threats, taking measures against the placement of prohibited content on online information resources, protecting personal data, and carrying out awareness-raising activities among the public and organizations.
According to the Decree, the National Cybersecurity Agency is the legal successor of the Electronic Security Service, with all its rights and obligations, as well as assets, transferred to the Agency. The Agency will be governed and overseen by a Management Board consisting of a Chairperson and three Deputy Chairpersons.
The document also introduces amendments to several regulatory legal acts, aligning provisions related to the Electronic Security Service with the newly established Agency.
The Presidential Decree also approves the Charter of the National Cybersecurity Agency.
