Ministry’s official attended UPU sessions

A representative of the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport attended the Postal Operations Council and Council of Administration sessions held by the Universal Postal Union (UPU) in Berne, Switzerland, from 1 to 12 May.

Digital transformation and e-trade, UPU’s economic research activities, postal trade facilitation policy issues, management and compliance issues, data collection and protection policies and regulations were discussed at the UPU Council of Administration sessions. Also, sustainable postal services, sustainable development activities, inclusive financial services, financial services including innovation-oriented policy research, public-private partnerships, eTrade for all project statuses, UPU Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) mapping, other trade partnerships and initiatives, committee structure, composition and work program, development and cooperation strategy were highlighted.

Because of the need for member countries to prepare for the extraordinary congress to be held in October 2023, a sessional conference was held to open UPU to the broader postal sector.

The conference discussed the issues of UPU’s openness to the broader postal sector, the involvement of players in the broader postal sector in UPU decision-making and access to UPU products and services.

During the meeting, Azer Mammadrahimov, a representative of the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport, was elected co-chair of Committee #1 – the Credentials Committee at the next extraordinary congress to be held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in October 2023.

A preliminary agreement was reached on the organization of the issuance of postage stamps dedicated to the “Year of Heydar Aliyev”, as well as an exhibition of postage stamps belonging to Azerbaijan at the conference, as well as at the extraordinary congress, which will be attended by 192 UPU member countries.
