Ministry’s delegation attending ITU Council’s annual session
On 11 July, the annual session of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Council began its work in Geneva (Switzerland). Our country is represented at the session by a delegation from the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport.
As the governing body, the Council oversees the coordination of ITU activities, the implementation of relevant conventions, including the budget and financial resources of the organization. Azerbaijan was elected to the ITU Council in the elections held at the Plenipotentiary Conference in Bucharest (Romania), from 26 September to 14 October 2022, and became one of the 48 countries represented on the Council.
This year’s session is devoted to the topic “Creating a fit for the future ITU.” The session includes an assessment of the organization towards responding to the contemporary challenges of the strategic factors of global ICT policy and discussions on how to improve the organization’s activities in this regard.
Speaking at the high-level segment of the session, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Ministry Bakhtiyar Mammadov informed the participants of the event about the development of ICT infrastructure in our country and the work done in the field of digital transformation.
The session also plans to consider the proposals of member states regarding the activities of the organization and discuss the ITU strategic plan for 2024–2027 and a roadmap for transformation.
The session will run until 22 July.
