Ministry delegation attending UPU Extraordinary Congress
The Extraordinary Congress of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) began its work in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on 1 October. Azerbaijan is represented at the congress by a delegation from the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport (MDDT).
As the UN’s specialized agency for the postal sector, the UPU plays an important role in establishing postal cooperation between governments, including all other stakeholders in the postal sector.
An exhibition of postage stamps was organized in a virtual format within the congress, where the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport presented postage stamps dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Great Leader Heydar Aliyev.
The stamps presented at the exhibition reflect the life and legacy of national leader Heydar Aliyev, the path leading Azerbaijani culture to progress. Participants familiarized themselves with digital stamps reflecting different periods of life, political activity of outstanding statesman Heydar Aliyev.
Other stamps on “Azerbaijani heritage” and “Azerbaijan’s political attributes” were also presented at the exhibition.
More than 4,000 representatives of 192 UPU member countries taking part in the congress, as well as the Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Saudi Arabia Shahin Abdullayev together with representatives of the embassy visited the exhibition and familiarized themselves with the its work. The stamps presented at the exhibition were met with interest by the participants.
The event will discuss analyses of postal strategy for the current and future world, as well as proposals to open up the UPU to the wider postal sector (private sector).
The congress will continue its work until October 5.
