Important decisions adopted at the ITF Summit under Azerbaijan’s Presidency

The International Transport Forum (ITF) Summit under Azerbaijan’s Presidency is underway in Leipzig, Germany.

On the second day of the event, the 18th session of the Council of Ministers of Transport was held under the chairmanship of Rashad Nabiyev, Minister of Digital Development and Transport. The meeting produced concrete outcomes aimed at developing more efficient and sustainable transport systems in the coming years. In particular, two policy recommendations were adopted.

The first recommendation focuses on the digitalization of international freight transport and aims to make international transportation faster, more transparent, and more sustainable. The second recommendation is dedicated to the development of urban transport, with the primary goal of building cities that are not only efficient, but also inclusive and sustainable. In addition to the policy recommendations, the ministers also approved the admission of Ghana, Panama, and Peru as new members of the organization.

These achievements are the result of the purposeful efforts carried out during Azerbaijan’s presidency.

Following the Council meeting, an official press conference of the ministers was held. Rashad Nabiyev, Minister of Digital Development and Transport, provided information on the outcomes of the discussions and the decisions adopted.

It was noted that five key priority areas were identified during Azerbaijan’s presidency of the ITF, and the results achieved in these areas were presented.

These priorities include strengthening and digitalizing international transport connectivity, further developing the Forum as a more inclusive platform, simplifying cross-border transport, improving the efficiency of urban transport, as well as expanding knowledge exchange and institutional cooperation.

An open ministerial session on the theme “Pillars of Development – Governance, Innovation and Cooperation” was also held in Leipzig.

Minister of Digital Development and Transport Rashad Nabiyev stated that the event, dedicated to the three key areas of governance, innovation, and cooperation, serves as an important platform for extensive exchange of views. During Azerbaijan’s presidency, concrete steps were taken in these areas, institutional processes were strengthened, discussions on digitalization and urban transport were expanded, and an open and inclusive dialogue environment was ensured for members and partners.

The discussions held create new opportunities for more effective alignment of governance, innovation, and cooperation in practice.

On the second day of the ITF Summit, a presidency media briefing was also organized at Azerbaijan’s initiative. The Azerbaijani delegation provided international media representatives with information on the work carried out.

It was noted that important steps had been taken during this period to strengthen cooperation in the transport sector and promote sustainable and innovative solutions. By actively participating in events held within the framework of the Forum, Azerbaijan contributed to the deepening of international cooperation. Overall, the country put forward initiatives aimed at ensuring the more efficient and sustainable development of transport systems.
