IMO highly appreciates Azerbaijan seafarer training system
The seafarer training system of the State Maritime and Port Agency under the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport has successfully passed an audit by the International Maritime Organization (IMO). The audits were carried out by official IMO auditors from January to April 2022.
The audit analyzed the measures taken to bring the seafarer training and certification process in line with the requirements of the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping for Seafarers of the IMO and the relevant legal and regulatory documents.
According to the results of the audits, at the 105th session of the Maritime Safety Committee of the International Maritime Organization, it was decided that the State Maritime and Port Agency had fully complied with the requirements of the international convention. It was instructed to inform all member states of the organization about the inclusion of Azerbaijan in the IMO White List in the field of seafarers training.
Successful completion of the audit means that the diplomas and certificates issued to seafarers by the State Maritime and Port Agency will be recognized by the 175 member states of the International Maritime Organization. This increases confidence in the knowledge, skills, and professionalism of our seafarers and creates ample opportunities for the employment of Azerbaijani seafarers on ships sailing under the flag of foreign countries. It also simplifies the documentation process of our seafarers when entering foreign ports.
It should be noted that this audit is carried out once every five years by the International Maritime Organization.
The State Maritime and Port Agency continues to take comprehensive measures to implement the international conventions to which the Republic of Azerbaijan is a signatory in the relevant field, including the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping for Seafarers.
