Digitalization of Multimodal Data Exchange along the Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor Discussed
An international seminar on “Facilitating Trade and Transport in Eastern Europe and SPECA Countries: Digital Transformation of Multimodal Data Exchange Based on UN Standards” was held. The event was jointly organized by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), the Permanent Secretariat of the Intergovernmental Commission of the Europe–Caucasus–Asia International Transport Corridor (TRACECA), Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Digital Development and Transport, as well as partner organizations.
The seminar, held in a hybrid format at the World Customs Organization’s Regional Office for Capacity Building in Europe, brought together representatives from government agencies of over 15 countries, international organizations, transport and logistics companies, port and railway operators, as well as information technology specialists.
Discussions focused on the digitalization of data and documents accompanying cargo transport along the Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor (TCTC), the implementation of UN/CEFACT standards, results from pilot projects, and the next steps. Participants highlighted that establishing multimodal digital data exchange along the Trans-Caspian and other corridors should be a priority for the region’s economic development.
Several key decisions were adopted at the event. Additionally, the initiative to fund new projects under the SPECA (Special Programme for the Economies of Central Asia) Multilateral Trust Fund and to hold the next regional training seminar in 2026 was endorsed.
During the seminar, Azerbaijan presented the “Single Window” information system – the Digital Logistics Platform (DLP) – designed to create a fully digital environment for import-export, transit, transport, and logistics operations through a unified entry point, while enabling “smart” management of cargo flows. The platform’s functional capabilities and compliance with international standards were also highlighted.
