Baku hosts IDC conference on “All about innovations”

The international conference “IDC DX Day Roadshow 2018: all about innovations” was held today in Baku with the support of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies (MTCHT).

The main topics discussed at the conference were: “The key role of “clouds” in digital transformation”, “How to ensure secure digital transformation?”, “Commercial internet platform of things vs in-house development”, “How to structure your IT investments for analysis of big data projects?”, “Secure mobile workspace - work with applications and data everywhere”, “Artificial intelligence - the next step in increasing the efficiency” etc.

Speaking at the conference, Deputy Minister of Transport, Communications and High Technologies Elmir Velizade highlighted the expansion of the introduction of ICT in Azerbaijan and pointed to the resulting increase in the importance of cybersecurity issues and government’s special attention to this area. Saying a national strategy on cybersecurity is being developed in Azerbaijan today, Elmir Velizade added that the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies and other bodies are also involved in this process.

The Deputy Minister also mentioned the establishment of the Information Security Commission in the country, which is the coordinating body.

“Previously, according to the legislation, these duties were distributed among various government agencies. The new commission aims to improve coordination and achieve more efficient operation and joint activity of government agencies,” the Deputy Minister said.

The Deputy Minister stated that the next step in this direction is also the development of the concept of transition to the digital government: “The implementation of this concept will cover all sectors and all areas of the vital activities in the country. With each new technology there are certain risks associated with information security. Every person and every information security specialist must follow the existing digital requirements and try to apply them in their activities in the future. We hope that through joint efforts we will achieve these goals. This is very big and very important task. And it is necessary for us to establish closer cooperation between our local organizations and international companies such as IDC.”

According to Elmir Velizade, Azerbaijan is famous for its experts in the field of information security, who have always been known for their high professionalism. “We can say that during the years of our independence, there have not been any major incidents related to information security in the country. It also indicates the high level of our specialists. But there are certain moments that require more coordination of our activities. We hope that the documents developed by us will serve this,” he added.

The conference was also addressed by IDC Regional Director for Central Asia, Azerbaijan and Mongolia Andrew Beklemishev, head of the Lenovo Datacenter Group Channel for Central Asia and Azerbaijan Rasim Bakhshi, security consultant of Check Point Software Technologies Ltd Alexander Rupp, managing director for Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia at Qualys Inc. Pavel Sotnikov and others.
