Baku hosts 8th International Conference on Control and Optimization with Industrial Applications
The 8th International Conference on Control and Optimization with Industrial Applications (COIA-2022) kicked off today in Baku, organized by the Institute of Applied Mathematics of Baku State University with the support of the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport.
The traditionally organized and three-day event serves as a useful platform for researchers and practitioners from different countries in the field of control and optimization to discuss scientific results and exchange views.
The COIA conference series started in Azerbaijan in 2005; it was held in Baku in 2005, 2008, 2015, 2018 and 2020. In 2011, COIA was held in Turkiye at Bilkent University, and in 2013 in Bulgaria at Sofia University of Technology. This is the sixth time the international event has been held in Baku.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s conference is being held in a hybrid format – online and face-to-face. Well-known scientists from 30 countries are attending the event.
Speaking at the opening of the conference, Deputy Minister of Digital Development and Transport Rovshan Rustamov said that Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev considers science, education and training of qualified personnel important in his policy. As a result, the production of export-oriented, competitive, science-intensive products is one of the main issues of sustainable economic and political development of the country.
The deputy minister added that the International Conference Control and Optimization with Industrial Applications has been successfully held for many years. The prestigious event serves the purpose of training and raising the level of scientific and technical personnel, establishing international relations and cooperation, conducting joint scientific research, and sharing experiences.
“The works of the conference were included in the Web of Science database in 2018 and 2020. It was in those years that Azerbaijani scientists took first place among the countries of the South Caucasus in terms of the number of articles they published,” Rovshan Rustamov said.
It was noted that Azerbaijan wants to move from natural resource-based economy to innovation-based economy. The need to build a creative and innovative society is clearly stated in the document “Azerbaijan 2030: National Priorities for Socio-Economic Development”, approved by the relevant order of President Ilham Aliyev. Digital transformation is one of the key factors on the way to a creative and innovative society. The articles presented in a number of sections of the conference are also directly related to digital implementations.
The deputy minister expressed confidence that the discussions to be held at the international event will contribute to the implementation of digital transformation in our country, our scientists will use the reports to be heard at the conference for scientific and applied work in Azerbaijan, and will support the development of industry and economy.
Then rector of Baku State University Elchin Babayev, academician of Russian Academy of Sciences, head of research of P.P. Shirshov Institute of Oceanology Robert Nigmatulin, full member of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, general director of Institute of Management Systems Ali Abbasov spoke at the event. In the speeches, the application of scientific results in industry and economics, optimization and management aspects were noted, and the importance of the international conference was emphasized.
The event then was continued with sessions.
A total of 293 reports will be heard at the three-day international conference. They will cover such topics as Control Theory, Optimization, Intelligent Systems, Fuzzy Control, Network and Telecommunications, Numerical and Computational Methods, Mathematical Modeling and Simulation, Applications in Industry and Economics, Identification, Application of Optimization Procedures in Physical Problems.
