Azerbaijan’s Key Transport Policy Priorities Presented at Event in Almaty

A high-level regional dialogue was held in Almaty, Kazakhstan, jointly organized by the International Transport Forum (ITF) and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP). The event featured discussions on the development of sustainable transport systems in Central and Southeast Asia, measures to improve the efficiency of regional freight transport, and efforts to decarbonize the transport sector.

Speaking at the event, Naghi Ahmadov, an official of the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport, highlighted the reforms implemented by Azerbaijan in the transport and logistics sector, the country’s initiatives to strengthen regional connectivity, and its future development plans. He noted that infrastructure development, stronger coordination and cooperation among state bodies and partners, and accelerated digitalization are among the key priorities of Azerbaijan’s transport policy.

Emphasizing the strategic importance of the Middle Corridor across the Eurasian region, Naghi Ahmadov noted that the route makes a significant contribution to the diversification of international freight transport routes, strengthening the resilience of supply chains, and deepening cooperation among countries in the region. He also stressed that the Middle Corridor serves as a vital transport link, expanding access to global markets for landlocked developing countries.

Participants also reviewed the key challenges hindering the development of cross-border transport. Discussions focused on streamlining border-crossing procedures, the adoption of digital solutions, improving data exchange, and harmonizing regulatory frameworks. The importance of continued cooperation was also emphasized.
