Azerbaijani Expert to Lead ITF Research Project

Alish Ismayilov, an employee of the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport, will lead an international research project being carried out under the International Transport Forum’s (ITF) 2026–2027 Work Programme. He was seconded to the ITF Secretariat during Azerbaijan’s Chairmanship of the organisation. He continued his cooperation with the ITF after the end of the Chairmanship and currently represents Azerbaijan on the Forum’s Transport Research Committee.

The project, titled “Using Artificial Intelligence to Improve Policy and Outcomes in Transport Authorities”, will examine the application of artificial intelligence technologies in government transport authorities.

The project is expected to involve around 40 experts from approximately 20 countries, as well as representatives of the private sector and other organisations. This approach will enable a comparative study of the experiences of different countries and help identify opportunities and challenges related to the application of artificial intelligence in the transport sector.

At the first project meeting, the members were introduced, and the initial approaches of the participating countries and organisations were discussed. An exchange of views was also held on the main areas of the research and its expected outcomes.

The application of artificial intelligence in transport authorities has been one of the key areas of focus of the ITF in recent years. Within the ITF framework, various studies have been conducted, and policy documents have been prepared on the safe, responsible and effective use of artificial intelligence by transport authorities.

Leading the new project demonstrates the expanding research cooperation between Azerbaijan and the ITF, as well as the growing participation of Azerbaijani experts in international research and knowledge exchange within the ITF framework.
