The closing event of the grant project “Establishment of an Innovation Policy in Azerbaijan”, implemented since 2022 within the cooperation between the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and the Innovation and Digital Development Agency (IDDA) under the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport, was held.

Deputy Minister of Digital Development and Transport Samir Mammadov delivered the opening speech at the event by congratulating the graduates of the program and expressing his gratitude to the trainers. He also highlighted the constantly developing cooperation relations between Korea and Azerbaijan and its importance for our country: “Studying best practices gained in the field of innovation in South Korea through these programs creates new opportunities for our ecosystem. Our cooperation with KOICA is a vivid example of this.”

Then the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Korea to Azerbaijan Lee In-Young was invited to speak. In his speech, he noted that the projects implemented by KOICA have made a great contribution to strengthening relations between Azerbaijan and Korea: “Participants of the capacity building trainings, along with close acquaintance with Korean innovation experience, have studied in detail the possibilities of applying these approaches in Azerbaijan.” The meeting was addressed by the Head of KOICA Azerbaijan office Hwang Sulim and Project Manager Soo Hyun Ree. They spoke about the achievements of the KOICA project in Azerbaijan for two years and its benefits to the ecosystem.

KOICA's “Capacity Building” project is implemented in cooperation with IDDA. The chairman of the organization Inara Valiyeva noted that KOICA’s constant trainings over the past two years have yielded positive results in building a healthy innovation ecosystem: “Graduates of KOICA’s acceleration and mentoring programs have adopted different approaches to innovative entrepreneurship and have taken the opportunity to practice their ideas.” At the same time, I.Valiyeva noted that such programs are an integral part of the overall innovation strategy and an important factor determining its development.

It should be noted that the project “Establishment of an Innovation Policy in Azerbaijan” was implemented in 2022 in accordance with a grant agreement signed between the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport and the Korean International Cooperation Agency.
