58 percent of existing households in Azerbaijan have broadband Internet access
Within the framework of the “Online Azerbaijan” project implemented by the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport, about 888 thousand households in Azerbaijan got access to broadband Internet for 11 months of 2023. In total, some 1.7 million households are covered by broadband Internet access. This represents 58 percent of existing households in the country, and it is planned to increase this figure to 60 percent by the end of this year.
A broadband network covering most regions of the country with a minimum Internet speed of 25 Mbps will be built under the project through joint efforts of several telecom operators on the basis of a public-private partnership model.
Thus, work is currently underway to provide cities and villages with high-speed and broadband Internet based on GPON (Gigabit Passive Optical Networks) technology. Using this technology, citizens can connect only to the telephony services, as well as use packages such as Internet+telephony, Internet+television (two in one) and Internet+telephony+television (three in one). Payment is made on the basis of the tariff package selected by the subscriber.
It should be noted that work on the above project is planned to be completed by the end of 2024.
