20 February – International Day Commemorating Air Crash Victims and their Families

20 February is celebrated as the International Day Commemorating Air Crash Victims and their Families on the initiative of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

The ICAO move aims to honor the memory of those who died in civil aviation accidents and focus on the mental, physical and spiritual well-being of their family members.

The international organization, of which Azerbaijan is a member, has launched numerous initiatives over the past few years to provide adequate assistance to these families. Each year ICAO organizes international events to help member countries develop appropriate legislation and plans to address the needs of victims of air crashes and their families.

A workshop is taking place today in the city of Milan, Italy. A representative of the State Civil Aviation Agency under the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport of the Republic of Azerbaijan is also attending the event.

The agenda of the workshop will include a discussion of existing global, regional and national provisions for assistance to victims of aircraft accidents and their families. This discussion is held to establish or develop appropriate legislation in ICAO Member States.
