ITF Statistical Bulletin Highlights Positive Trends in Azerbaijan
The International Transport Forum (ITF) has released a statistical bulletin offering a comparative analysis of global transport trends for 2014–2024. Azerbaijan is highlighted in a dedicated section, reflecting its role as the ITF’s current chair country. The report notes that the country has recorded positive developments over the past decade, with significant growth observed in freight transport via maritime routes. The 2014–2024 period is characterized as a phase of rising global container traffic. Among the 22 countries analyzed, Azerbaijan registered the second-highest increase in container throughput, achieving a growth of 150%.
The report also presents statistical data on road safety. While traffic-related fatalities in other countries have remained largely stable, Azerbaijan has recorded significant improvements. In 2024, the number of road traffic incidents fell by 46% compared to 2014, and fatalities in traffic accidents decreased by 32%.
The data presented in the statistical bulletin reflect the recent transformations in Azerbaijan’s transport sector: road safety has been strengthened, maritime port indicators have improved, and the country’s role in the global transport network has been further consolidated.
