Azerbaijan Represented in ITF’s Working Group on Sustainable Mobility

Representatives of the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport and the Azerbaijan Land Transport Agency took part in the inaugural meeting of the Working Group established under the International Transport Forum’s (ITF) research project, “Sustainable Mobility in Small and Medium-Sized Cities and Rural Areas.”

During the online meeting, participants discussed the Working Group’s areas of activity, the scope of the research project, its priorities, and the expected outcomes. It was noted that the Working Group, which will operate for approximately one year, aims to improve transport services in small and medium-sized cities as well as rural areas, expand mobility opportunities for the population, and examine successful practices in the regions.

As part of the project, a comparative analysis of the experiences of the participating countries will be conducted, successful international practices will be identified, and practical recommendations will be developed. The final outcomes will be taken into account in the ITF future research and policy documents.

During the discussions, the Azerbaijani delegation noted that the country’s experience in transport sector reforms, the development of public transport in the regions, and sustainable mobility could contribute to the work of the Working Group.

The Azerbaijani side plans to actively participate in the Working Group’s upcoming meetings and research activities and apply the experience gained through the project in Azerbaijan.

It should be noted that the research project forms part of the ITF Programme of Work for 2026–2027, which was approved by the ITF member countries in Baku.
