World Ports Conference gets underway in Baku

World Ports Conference - IAPH Baku 2018 has kicked off in Baku.

The event brought together more than 400 representatives of international ports, business communities, shipping and logistics companies from over 65 countries including USA, Russia, China, India, Indonesia, Philippines, Japan, Germany, France, and Spain.

Group Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of DP World Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, President of Indonesia Port Corporation (IPC), the largest port company in Indonesia Elvin Masassaya, President of Port System Authority of the Eastern Adriatic Sea – Port of Trieste Zeno D’Agostino, Chief Executive Officer Port Authority of New South Wales (formerly Sydney Ports Corporation) Grant Gilfillan, and Managing Director of Nigerian Ports Authority Hadiza Bala Usman are among the high-ranking participants.

Each year International Association of Ports and Harbors (IAPH) holds conferences in large port cities.

So far, the conferences have been held in Los Angeles (2013), Sydney (2014), Hamburg (2015), Panama (2016), and Bali (2017).

Port of Baku is the first port in Central Eurasia to host an IAPH conference.

The main theme for the IAPH Baku 2018 World Ports Conference is “Ports of Future: Building Hubs, Accelerating Connectivity.”

The four-day conference will focus on the important and interesting topics like emerging transport corridors around the world that contribute to domestic economies in free trade zones and neighboring countries, concentrating on the topics of “SmartPorts”, “Green Ports” as well as marine tourism.

The conference agenda also includes a technical visit to the new Port of Baku in Alat which is the linchpin of Azerbaijan’s grand hub vision.
