Winners of Republican Olympiad in Informatics among university students determined

The final stage of the 12th Republican Olympiad in Informatics among university students, dedicated to May 17 – World Telecommunication and Information Society Day, was held.

 

Note that the Olympiad was jointly organized by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies, Heydar Aliyev Foundation, the Ministry of Education and the Institute of Information Technologies of National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan (ANAS). The purpose of the Olympiad is raising the level of knowledge of students of higher educational institutions in the field of computer science, programming, their growing interest in this area, as well as involvement of winners in the international Olympiads.

 

The academician-secretary of ANAS, the director of the Institute of Information Technologies of ANAS, academician Rasim Aliguliyev, who opened the event with an introductory speech, provided detailed information on the competition.

 

According to him, this year 62 teams from 25 universities are eligible to participate in the competition. Teams from 14 higher educational institutions operating in the capital and regions (Baku Engineering University, ADA University, Baku Higher Oil School, Baku State University, Azerbaijan Technical University, Baku Branch of Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov, Academy of Public Administration, Azerbaijan-France University, National Academy of Aviation, Azerbaijan State Agrarian University, Sumgayit State University, Azerbaijan State University of Oil and Industry, University of Azerbaijan, Nakhchivan State University) qualified to the second (final) round of the Olympiad.

 

Rasim Aliguliyev stressed that this year 25 women participants took part in the various teams in these competitions.

 

Speaking at the event, Deputy Minister of Transport, Communications and High Technologies Elmir Velizade said that the competitions, which serve to improve students’ knowledge in the field of computer science, programming and their interest in this field are commendable.

 

Elmir Velizade noted that this Olympiad is a preparation for presenting the country at international competitions.

 

Yagub Piriyev, deputy chief of staff of the Ministry of Education, head of the department of science, higher and secondary specialized education, stressed that the leadership of the country attaches special importance to the development of education in the relevant specialty. Since the current year, the admission of bachelors in IT specialties has been increased by one and a half times.

 

He also noted that the most prestigious annual international competition in computer science (programming) among secondary school students – the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) will be held in Azerbaijan in 2019.

 

Speaking at the event, the representative of Heydar Aliyev Foundation, PhD in Law Zafig Khalilov in his speech noted the continued support of Heydar Aliyev Foundation for projects implemented in the field of science and education, including information technologies.

 

The Chairman of the Jury of the Olympiad, associate professor of Baku State University Ramin Mahmudzade stressed the importance of the Olympiad in terms of identifying talented students in the field of computer science and programming, supporting them, creating conditions for representing the country at intellectual competitions at a high level.

 

Teacher of Baku Engineering University, one of the organizers of the Olympiad Etibar Seidzade provided exact details on technical issues and procedures.

 

In conclusion, the results of the finals were announced. The 1st place was taken by team BEU Programmers of Baku Engineering University. Team ADA U1 of ADA University took the 2nd place, the third place – BSU1 of Baku State University, the fourth place – team Sharper of the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

 

It should be noted that the winners (I-IV places) will be awarded valuable prizes from companies Nar and BestComp Group, as well as honorary certificates and diplomas of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies.
