Twinning project “Increasing Road Safety in Azerbaijan” launched
On 7 October, a twinning project “Increasing Road Safety in Azerbaijan” in order to improve standards, management of road safety, coordination between agencies, and enhance the knowledge and skills of staff in relevant agencies was launched within the framework of the EU’s European Neighbourhood Policy Instrument.
The project is based on the “State Program on Road Safety in the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2019–2023”, approved by Presidential Decree No. 852 dated 27 December 2018. One of the main executive agencies of the action plan for the implementation of the state program is the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport.
A grant of €1 million is to be allocated for our country as part of the twinning project, which will last 27 months.
The direct beneficiary of the twinning project is the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport. It is also planned that the Main Directorate of Traffic Police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ministry of Science and Education and other relevant agencies will be actively involved in the project.
The objective of the twinning project is to help reduce road traffic accidents resulting in death or serious injury and socio-economic damage, and improve the legal, institutional capacity and human resources of relevant government agencies and other stakeholders to better manage and coordinate road safety issues in Azerbaijan.
