Regular meeting of Azerbaijan-Turkey Joint Commission held in Istanbul
The regular meeting of the Azerbaijan-Turkey Joint Commission was held in Istanbul in accordance with the terms of the “Agreement on international road transport between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the Republic of Turkey”.
The current situation in the field of international road transport between Azerbaijan and Turkey was discussed at the meeting.
During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on static data on the use of authorization forms used by road carriers of both countries, problems faced by road carriers in the implementation of freight and passenger transport, and ways to address them. The sides also discussed the creation of favorable conditions for road carriers of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic to travel to Georgia and other countries through the territory of Turkey, the possibility of transit of Turkish carriers through the territory of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic and optimization of transit costs when carrying out transportation through the Caspian Sea through Azerbaijan to Central Asia.
Taking into account the restrictions at the border checkpoints of a number of countries during the pandemic, the growing need of Turkish road carriers for transit through the territory of Azerbaijan and the expansion of trade and economic relations, the number of quotas for authorization forms used for international transportation has been adapted to needs.
The sides agreed on joint activities in projects on various platforms to facilitate East-West cargo transportation between the two countries, and the importance of expanding cooperation to enhance the role of our country’s carriers in this area was stressed.
There was also an exchange of views on the suspension of passenger transportation on the Baku-Istanbul-Baku route due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the possibility of its resumption because of easing of quarantine conditions.
In conclusion, a relevant Protocol was signed on prospects and other topical issues.
