Ministry’s employees took part in another event held as part of tree planting campaign Green Marathon 2022
Another tree planting campaign was held in Khojasan settlement on April 9 as part of the nationwide greening marathon (Green Marathon) at the initiative of the Vice-President of Heydar Aliyev Foundation, founder and head of IDEA public association Leyla Aliyeva.
This time, the large-scale tree planting campaign organized by IDEA Public Association in cooperation with the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources was attended by employees of the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport and BP regional office for Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey.
During the campaign, more than 2,000 seedlings of Eldar pine and olive trees were planted on an area of 3 hectares in accordance with the soil and climatic conditions of the Absheron Peninsula.
As part of the campaign organized by IDEA Public Association together with the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, it is planned to carry out mass planting of trees, increase the area of green spaces in various regions of the country during the spring and autumn sowing period.
It should be noted that this year under the Green Marathon it is planned to create green corridors in Azerbaijan, especially on the Absheron Peninsula, planting trees in areas with difficult terrain, steep slopes, and in this connection terraces will be prepared on slopes, catchment areas will be formed for rainwater accumulation and watering trees. Thus, soil erosion will be prevented, its air permeability, water permeability and fertility will be increased, which will lead to a higher percentage of germination, and irrigation water will be saved in these areas.
In addition, the campaign provides for the planting of forest trees on the lands of the country’s open forest fund on an area of 1,000 hectares, sowing seeds and reforestation activities in the spring and autumn sowing season.
The main goal of the project is to prevent possible threats against the background of the reduction of green spaces, to contribute to environmental protection by encouraging tree planting, and to increase the biodiversity of our country, raising awareness of citizens about the protection of green spaces.
The mass tree planting also aims to support global efforts to achieve reductions in greenhouse gas emissions that cause climate change.
