Ministerial Meeting on TASIM held within Bakutel 2016 Exhibition and Conference
Ministerial Meeting on the project Trans-Eurasian Information Super Highway (TASIM) was held in Baku within the framework of Azerbaijan International Telecommunications and Information Technologies Exhibition and Conference Bakutel-2016 .
Speaking at the meeting, Minister of Communications and High Technologies Ramin Guluzade spoke on the importance of the project TASIM on the background of reforms implemented in Azerbaijan for the development of ICT sector. The Minister said ICT, which is dynamically developing in the world, is a priority area in Azerbaijan and is always in the center of attention of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The Minister stressed the special role of TASIM to meet the world’s growing need for information exchange among world countries .
Noting that the global political support was given to the project, the Minister said that the implementation of the project will positively contribute to the socio-economic development of countries in the region, in particular the organization and development of new forms of socio-economic activities such as e-government, e-health, e-commerce, and e-learning.
Minister of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications of Turkey Ahmet Arslan expressed satisfaction with being a partner in such a global project, and expressed their willingness to provide any support to the implementation of the project TASIM, which is considered to be a global project of the future .
Speaking at the meeting, Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Houlin Zhao said this project, which is supported by the United Nations, along with the partner countries, is of great importance for the world in general. He noted that such projects promise future prospects against the background of the dynamic development of ICT.
Then speaking at the meeting, Deputy Minister of Information and Communications of the Republic of Kazakhstan Alan Azhibayev, Deputy Minister of Industry and Information Technology of China Xu Dazhe said the project TASIM is of global importance.
Note that the goal of the project TASIM is laying a transnational fiber-optic line covering the countries of Eurasia from Western Europe to East Asia.
This initiative was put forward by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies of the Republic of Azerbaijan at the ministerial meeting held within the Exhibition and Conference BakuTel 2008 . In the same year, a special Baku Declaration on the establishment of “Trans-Eurasian Information Super Highway” project was adopted. On December 21, 2009, the 64th session of the UN General Assembly passed a resolution on the “Eurasian Super Information Highway”. Azerbaijan’s special role in the coordination of the project was noted in the resolution, which was supported by 30 countries as co-authors and adopted by consensus. In April 2010, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies created a Management Team for TASIM and has been financing it since then.
In 2012, another resolution on the implementation of the project TASIM was unanimously adopted at the UN General Assembly . In 2013, a resolution on the start of negotiations on the establishment of the Eurasian Connectivity Alliance ( EuraCA) on the initiative of the Republic of Azerbaijan was unanimously adopted at the 98th plenary meeting of the 67th session of the UN General Assembly . The resolution aims to support the creation of the project TASIM.
The main objective of the Alliance is to accelerate the implementation of the project.
