Meeting held between transport ministers of China and Azerbaijan
An online meeting was held between the delegation headed by Minister of Transport of the People’s Republic of China Li Xiaopeng and the delegation led by Minister of Transport, Communications and High Technologies Rashad Nabiyev.
Chinese Transport Minister Li Xiaopeng invited his Azerbaijani counterpart to take part in the second UN Global Sustainable Transport Conference to be held in Beijing on October 14-16. The Azerbaijani Minister, in turn, thanked his Chinese counterpart for the invitation and expressed his readiness to participate in the conference.
During the meeting, the current state of cooperation between the two countries in the field of transport and logistics was discussed, including the provision of support by the Chinese side in the transit of Chinese goods through the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Noting the importance of developing bilateral relations between the two countries in the transport and logistics spheres, Mr. Li Xiaopeng stressed the special contribution of the national leader of the Azerbaijani people Heydar Aliyev and President of the People’s Republic of China Jiang Zemin to the establishment of the Azerbaijani-Chinese political dialogue at a high level. During the meeting, the agreement was reached that large Chinese transport companies will support the transit route passing through Azerbaijan.
They also exchanged views on China’s support in using the potential of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route in cargo transportation.
It was noted at the meeting that Azerbaijan supports the China’s “One Belt and One Road” initiative.
Along with that, an agreement was reached on improving the regulatory framework between the two countries. Chinese Transport Minister Li Xiaopeng also noted his country’s readiness to provide support in infrastructure development, transportation and logistics projects that are being implemented in Azerbaijan.
For a more effective implementation of cooperation, the sides agreed to establish a working group on transport under the leadership of deputy ministers.
