Many local and international organizations join virtual hackathon to combat coronavirus pandemic

Interest has been growing in the virtual hackathon combining technological solutions to combat the coronavirus pandemic, which will be held on April 9-12 with the organizational support of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies, the United Nations Development Programme and the SUP.VC.
Several local and international organizations, including the Azerbaijan Tourism Board and the Data Processing Center, have already joined the partners supporting the hackathon.
The tourism industry is one of the most heavily affected sectors of the economy by the crisis. Therefore, it is now important to develop new innovative solutions, including digital ones, both in the local and in the global tourism industry. Taken as a whole, it is essential to increase the speed of digital transmission rate and the development of digital and remote applications in the country.
To participate in the said hackathon, you need to register on the website www.hackcov19.com and provide information about your team, your idea and how that idea will overcome the challenges listed above.
Working together with mentors, you will present these solution methods online to a jury of local and international experts.
Your ideas will be evaluated and preference will be given to ideas that can be implemented within the shortest possible time. The hackathon prize fund is $ 10,000.
How will the hackathon be held?
Completely in virtual form: from the announcement of the idea to the stage of selection, testing of prototypes and implementation of ideas.
We present you some of the key problems and invite you to find ways to solve them. However, do not be content with the following and do not hesitate to offer your solutions that eliminate the consequences of the coronavirus:
1. Support those who are most vulnerable and at risk
How can technology support elderly people and people with disabilities who are quarantined or isolated at home?
You can come up with an idea that helps people buy food products and medications without leaving home. An example is the platform that regulates the grouping of volunteers upon request and allows you to safely provide assistance to others in these difficult times.
2. Technology and healthcare
How can technology assist doctors and nurses at the forefront of the current coronavirus pandemic? What role can technology play in the early detection of disease?
We encourage candidates to offer all possible technological solutions that can be practical, from thermal cameras to contact tracking applications.
3. Support small and medium-sized businesses
How can we support small businesses and those working in the field of informal employment to continue their work during the crisis?
During the quarantine, this can be a prepaid service or an online platform that regulates systems, queues and adaptations in business models depending on the current situation.
4. Physical distance and social contact
How can technology workers help people with ongoing social exclusion, lack of access to information and resources, as well as emotional and physical support?
We are seeking solutions that will help people prepare themselves for and accept potential travel restrictions that can last for weeks or months, closing meeting places and borders and suspending flights.
5. Enhance awareness, shape appropriate behavior and take public opinion into account
At a time when information is changing every second, it is becoming increasingly difficult for people to follow the necessary instructions and rules, and also be sure that they receive this information only from official and reliable sources. And how else can we use technology to inform the public about the current situation and monitor the process without causing concern?
6. Technology and education
How else can the technology be used to conduct online classes for children, students and people with disabilities, download teaching aids and organize an effective distance learning process?
7. Technology and engineering
We invite everyone to come up with any ideas that can be used for detection of the coronavirus, prevention and treatment of it.
Infection detecting devices, effective hygienic methods, easy way of making masks and disinfection methods can be proposed as solutions.
8. Technology in everyday life
What technological tools can facilitate the daily lives of people with minimal risk and allow them to do shopping, cleaning and other daily activities?
As a result, you can also list the difficulties you have witnessed. If you or your loved one is facing a problem that can be solved through technology, you can offer your ideas in this regard.
