International Girls in ICT Day

The International Girls in ICT Day is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of April each year worldwide. This day was established by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the United Nations specialized agency for information and communication technologies (ICTs).

 

The goal of the Girls in ICT Day is to attract girls and young women in the field of information and communication technologies, to support their role in this sphere.

 

This international day is traditionally and widely celebrated in Azerbaijan as well.

 

The Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies annually holds a number of events dedicated to the International Girls in ICT Day, with a view to educating young girls in the field of technology, informing them about the importance of education and wide opportunities in this area, and attracting them to active participation in the digital world.

 

This time, the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies and the Girls Code Azerbaijan platform organized an event for female students on the topic “Programming: Data Analysis and Visualization with R”. The event discussed the use of the R language in technology and how to apply it, and also showed practical examples. Questions from participants were answered in detail.

 

Also, an online webinar was held on the theme “Women and Technological Development” for 9-10 graders. The event, co-organized by  the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies, FemTech platform,  AREA - Azerbaijan Robotics Engineering Academy  and  Ders Evi company, covered such topics as “Human-robot communication: alternative design and a new generation approach” and “Innovation and professional women in modern times”. The trainers shared their theoretical and practical knowledge with the participants.
