Gender equality hackathon to be held for first time in Azerbaijan

Gender equality hackathon will be held for the first time in Azerbaijan. The project co-organized by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies, the Public Association Regional Development will take place with the financial support from the European Union within the framework of the EU 4 Gender Equality: Together Against Gender Stereotypes and Gender-Based Violence” programme, and implemented jointly by the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and Empowerment of Women (UN Women) and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). The aim of the hackathon, which will take place on February 19-21, is to encourage and educate young people to solve gender-related issues through the use of technological tools.
Over 30 teams from Baku and regions are expected to join the hackathon. They will have the opportunity to work with professional local and foreign mentors to prepare for the competition.
Participants will be able to choose one topic from among topics such as tackling violence against women, preventing son preference and undervaluing of girls, promoting responsible fatherhood, combating gender stereotypes in career choices, and achieving gender equality in household chores. The teams will be given time to develop a prototype of their projects.
The projects submitted for the hackathon, which will take place online, will be evaluated by a jury and the winners will be awarded. The winner of the first place will receive 5,000 AZN, the second – 3,000 AZN, and the third – 1,000 AZN.
