First DigiGirls conference held in Shamakhy

Conference DigiGirls, which is dedicated to the role of girls in information technologies was held in Shamakhy for the first time with the support of Heydar Aliyev Foundation, through the joint organization of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies and Microsoft Azerbaijan, and on the initiative of Shamakhy Region Executive Authority.

 

At the event, which is held in Azerbaijan for the fifth consecutive year, schoolgirls in Shamakhy were substantially informed of the importance of holding such conferences that provide the opportunity for girls to look at the work in the rapidly developing high-tech industry and get acquainted with the most exciting technological innovations.

 

The program DigiGirls, implemented by Microsoft Azerbaijan, is designed to train future workers who are ready for the challenges and problems of the global economy.

 

Head of the Department of Innovation Development of the Information Society and Electronic Governance of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies Rashad Azizov spoke about the importance of ensuring digital gender equity in a timely manner for the innovative development of Azerbaijan. “The Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies provides constant support for the expansion of women’s ICT activities.

 

Authors of the three successful startup projects presented within the framework of startup tours “From Idea to Business” held this year in Baku and regions, were women,” the department head said.

 

Microsoft Azerbaijan’s CEO Sarkhan Hashimov noted that the main objective of the DigiGirls conference is to support and develop girls working in the field of technology, give impetus to their development, destroy gender stereotypes that still exist and hinder disclosure of talent and ICT career development, to show them ways of how to build a career in the ICT field and the opportunities that technology can give them.

 

During the event, the participants had the opportunity to talk with the women who have built career in information technologies.

 

The conference created an opportunity for the schoolchildren to become familiar with the work of young women in the fast- growing high-tech industry and the most exciting technological innovations.
