European Council President Charles Michel visits Azercosmos Main Ground Satellite Control Center
President of the European Council Charles Michel, who is on a visit to our country, visited the Main Ground Satellite Control Center of the Space Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan (Azercosmos) under the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies.
During the meeting, Minister of Transport, Communications and High Technologies Rashad Nabiyev noted that cooperation between Azerbaijan and the European Union is of particular importance for our country. The Minister stressed the presence of great potential for further development of relations in various spheres, including transport, communications and high technologies.
Speaking about the space field, Rashad Nabiyev noted that the launch of telecommunication satellites Azerspace-1 and Azerspace-2 into orbit by French company Arianespace is a shining example of Azerbaijan’s commitment to the cooperation with European partners. The Minister added that the Earth observation satellite Azersky was acquired in 2014 from Airbus Defense and Space.
Rashad Nabiyev praised the efforts of the European Union Agency for the Space Programme to expand ties between the Space Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan (Azercosmos) and the European Geostationary Navigation Overlay Service (EGNOS).
In conclusion, Rashad Nabiyev said that the International Astronautical Congress will be held in Baku in 2023. The Minister invited the President of the European Council Charles Michel to participate in the congress.
During the meeting, a presentation was made on the creation and development of the space industry in our country. It was noted that the mission of Azercosmos is to provide satellite solutions based on advanced technologies and develop new services and solutions to support local and global initiatives for peace and prosperity in the world.
