Current transport problems in Azerbaijan and their solutions discussed

A meeting officially opening the project “Transport Decarbonization in Azerbaijan” to inform the parties concerned about its goals and planned activities took place in Baku.

 

The meeting was attended by representatives of the International Transport Forum, as well as the Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment and Energy. The representatives of the relevant departments and agencies of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies, Baku Transport Agency, Ministry of Energy, Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, State Committee on Statistics, Azerbaijan Railways CJSC, SOCAR, Baku Engineering University, Azerbaijan Technical University and EU4Climate project of the United Nations Development Programme.

 

The project “Transport Decarbonization in Emerging Economies”, which will be implemented by the International Transport Forum in 2019-2022, is funded by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety. The purpose is to assist in the development of transport programs for implementing climate goals and commitments in four countries – Azerbaijan, Argentina, India and Morocco.

 

From today until November 15, it is planned to hold meetings in relevant organizations on the existing transport problems in Azerbaijan and work to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the transport sector.

 

It should be noted that the Republic of Azerbaijan is a member of the International Transport Forum. Participation in this project will contribute to the implementation of the commitments of the Paris Agreement adopted at the 21st Conference of the Parties within the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.
