Baku hosts meeting of experts on multimodal transport and railway digitalization

A meeting of experts on digitalization of multimodal transport and railways in North and Central Asia was held today in Baku in a hybrid format under the organization of the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport, in cooperation with the Secretariat of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP).

It should be noted that taking into account the important role of digitalization in the development of the transport system in the Asia-Pacific region, the ESCAP secretariat is implementing a technical assistance project on “New technologies and digital transformation to enhance sustainability and competitiveness of railway operations in North and Central Asia”.

The objective of the project, of which our country is also a beneficiary, is to provide support to increase the understanding and skills of relevant institutions of the participating countries on the experience gained in the use of new technologies in digital transformation, railway and multimodal transport and successful policy instruments in the said subregion.

The event was attended by representatives of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Russia, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan, as well as representatives of the UNESCAP secretariat, UNESCAP Subregional Office for North and Central Asia (SONCA), International Union of Railways (UIC), TRACECA and other international organizations.

Our country was represented at the event by representatives of the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport, State Customs Committee, Azerbaijan Railways CJSC, Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company CJSC and Baku International Sea Trade Port CJSC.

It should be mentioned that a joint ESCAP-UIC workshop on “Capacity Building for Digital Transformation of Railways in North and Central Asia” will also be organized in Baku on 3 November in a hybrid format by the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport in the context of further developing connectivity along the Trans-Asian Railway network.
