Azerbaijan presides over BSEC transport events

Within the framework of the Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC), meetings of the Steering Committee on the Development of the Black Sea Ring Highway and the Working Group on the Development of Motorways of the Sea in the BSEC region were held.
The main topics of discussion at the meeting were the appointment of representatives of the member countries to the Steering Committee, the definition of the main route and adjacent routes passing through the territory of the countries of this international highway.
The goal is to enhance cooperation between the parties in the development of the Black Sea Ring Highway as an international ring highway in the Black Sea region. This cooperation includes repair, reconstruction, rehabilitation, restoration of the main and auxiliary road infrastructure, as well as the construction of new ones.
At the meetings chaired by senior advisor for the Department of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies Teymur Abbasov, our country was also represented by department head of the State Maritime Agency Vamik Rahimov, and an employee of the Consulate General of Azerbaijan in Istanbul Ramiz Hajizade.
The agenda of the meeting of the Working Group on the Development of Motorways of the Sea in the BSEC region includes holding discussions on the current status of the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding on the Development of the Motorways of the Sea, taking the necessary measures to develop a master plan and projects in this area, the activities of the Joint Technical Secretariat of the Working Group, the future rotation schemes and other issues.
It should be noted that Azerbaijan joined the main route of the Black Sea Ring Highway through the Baku-Alat-Gazakh - state border with Georgia and the Baku-Guba- state border with the Russian Federation.
In accordance with the decisions of the BSEC Transport Working Group held on October 24, 2018 in Baku, Azerbaijan will chair the Steering Committee and the working group for the next two years.
