Azerbaijan – Georgia Joint Commission holds regular meeting

The Azerbaijan – Georgia Joint Commission held its regular meeting in Tbilisi. At the regular meeting of the Azerbaijan – Georgia Joint Commission on International Road Transport, the main topic of the discussion was the issue of resuming the movement of public transport to/from Georgia.

The meeting discussed the current state in the field of international road transport between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Georgia, exchange of statistical data, problems that road carriers faced in freight and passenger transportation and ways of their solutions, prospects for transport development and other topical issues.

Chief of State Road Transport Service under the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies Habib Hasanov informed the Georgian delegation about the recent reforms in the field of international cargo transportation in the Republic of Azerbaijan, updating the regulatory framework to improve the “Permit System” and ongoing new projects in this area. He noted that in the first half of 2021, the volume of traffic increased compared to the same period last year.

Taking into account the needs of the population, during the COVID-19 pandemic, Acting Director of Land Transport Agency of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia Nikolaz Gvenetadze proposed to restore regular passenger transportation routes in accordance with the rules established by relevant authorities of both countries. To that end, it was considered advisable to apply to the appropriate bodies.

They exchanged views on the prospects of transport development and other topical issues, as a result of which a corresponding protocol was signed.
