As part of pilot project “China–Europe Direct Express Crossing – Trans-Caspian Test Transportations”, first test transportations carried out

As part of the pilot project “China–Europe Direct Express Crossing – Trans-Caspian Test Transportations”, the first test transportations are being carried out. Three cargo vehicles dispatched from China arrived in Azerbaijan today.

The main objective of the project is to obtain information on border waiting times, customs procedures, controls and inspections, as well as transport infrastructure in international road transport along the route China–Kazakhstan–Azerbaijan–Georgia.

Today, a meeting was held with the Chinese delegation accompanying cargo vehicles, with the participation of representatives of the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport, State Customs Committee, Caspian Shipping Company CJSC and Baku International Sea Trade Port. At the event, the Chinese delegation was provided with detailed information about transit traffic through the territory of Azerbaijan, requirements for the transportations of various types of cargoes, regulation of freight transportations, etc. Presentations were also made.

It was reported that in 2024 for the first time Azerbaijan and China exchanged permit approval documents for international freight transport by road.

It should be noted that the successful implementation of the project, which is of great importance both in terms of transit freight traffic and access to the world market, will contribute to increasing the potential of the Middle Corridor and expanding its use in the future. This, in turn, will create conditions for further strengthening of Azerbaijan’s strategic position as a leading force in major transport and communication projects in the region and increasing its revenues from transit freight traffic.
