About 2 mln households and businesses have access to broadband Internet

Within the framework of the “Online Azerbaijan” project implemented by the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport, more than 1.1 million households and businesses in Azerbaijan gained access to broadband Internet in 2023. Thus, 66% of existing households and businesses in the country are covered by broadband Internet.

It should be noted that 227 thousand households and businesses had access to broadband Internet in 2017–2020 and 1 million 689 thousand households and businesses in 2021–2023. This means 7.4 times more than in the previous 4 years.

The project will build a broadband network covering most regions of the country with a minimum internet speed of 25 Mbps through the joint efforts of a number of telecoms operators based on a public-private partnership model.

Thus, work is currently underway to provide cities and villages with high-speed and broadband Internet on the basis of GPON (Gigabit Passive Optical Networks) technology. Using this technology, citizens can connect only to the telephony service, as well as use such packages as Internet+telephony, Internet+television (two in one) and Internet+telephony+television (three in one). Payment is made depending on the tariff package chosen by the subscriber.

It should be noted that work on the above project is planned to be completed by the end of 2024.
