74% of existing households and businesses in country have broadband Internet access
Within the framework of the Online Azerbaijan project implemented by the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport, 251 thousand households and business entities in Azerbaijan gained access to broadband Internet in the first three months of 2024. In total, about 2.16 million households are covered by broadband Internet access. This is 74% of the existing households and business entities in the country.
It should also be noted that according to the project, 79 thousand households and business entities of Baku city were provided with access to broadband Internet during the first three months of the current year. In general, in the capital by now the possibility of connecting to high-speed Internet on GPON technology has been created for about 0.95 million households. This is 86.5% of the existing households and business entities in Baku city.
Under the project, a broadband network with a minimum internet speed of 25 Mbps will be built in the country based on a public-private partnership model through the joint efforts of several telecom operators.
Currently, work is underway to provide cities and villages with high-speed and broadband Internet on the basis of GPON (Gigabit Passive Optical Networks) technology. Using this technology, citizens can connect to the telephony service only or purchase packages such as Internet+telephony, Internet+television (two in one) and Internet+telephony+television (three in one). Service fees are charged depending on the tariff package selected by the subscriber.
It should be noted that the said project is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2024.
