The 5th National Philatelic Exhibition “BakıFilEkspo” opened on November 8 at the Carpet Museum with the organizational support of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies, Azermarka LLC and Azerbaijan Philatelic Society.

The exhibition was attended by Deputy Minister of Transport, Communications and High Technologies Elmir Velizade, Deputy President of the Seaside Boulevard Office Elshan Iskandarov,  Director of Azermarka LLC Leyla Gulaliyeva, Deputy Chairman of Azerbaijan Philatelic Society Rovshan Ahmadov,  philatelists, numismatists and other collectors.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Minister Elmir Velizadeh noted that holding this event on the eve of such a significant holiday as the 100th anniversary of the State Flag of Azerbaijan is of particular importance.

According to him, 2018 was rich in remarkable events for Azerbaijan.

The celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, the National Army, and the enfranchisement of Azerbaijani women were among these events.

“As it is known, November 9 of this year marks 100 years since the creation of the State Flag of Azerbaijan. I think that the dedication of the national exhibition to this significant date further enhances its importance. The exhibition is organized in accordance with the orders of President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev ‘On celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic’ and ‘On declaring 2018 the Year of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic’. I also believe that the V National Philatelic Exhibition ‘BakıFilEkspo’ will become a new stage in the history of Azerbaijan’s philately and collecting as a whole,” Deputy Minister added.

Deputy Chairman of Azerbaijan Philatelic Society Rovshan Ahmadov said that a contest is planned to be held within the exhibition in 7 nominations.

According to him, in general, the exhibition is showcasing 19 collections and 34 printing works in all nominations.

“Of these, 4 collections fall within the official classification, 20 printing works  –  the non-competitive classification, 8 collections – the philately class, 3 collections – the deltiology and philumeny class, 4 collections – the numismatics class and 14 printing works - the literature class.  And 13 of 19 collections of the competitive classification are being demonstrated for the first time,” he stressed.

Rovshan Ahmadov added that a collection of coins titled “The history of the currency of the Azerbaijani Khanates” is also being showcased for the first time at the exhibition. This collection is dedicated to the significant pages of the Azerbaijan Statehood. The collection of about 300 coins includes the khanates of Ganja, Sheki, Shirvan, Erivan, Guba, Tabriz, Derbent and Karabakh.

Then, the collections were shown.

The event demonstrated unique and distinct from each other collections. The history of mail in the period of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, the release of envelopes with postage stamps dedicated to the Soviet-era Azerbaijan, interesting postage stamps issued in Azerbaijan in 1992-2018 and other collections aroused great interest among visitors.

Also, within the exhibition, a ceremony of cancellation of the stamp dedicated to the State Flag of Azerbaijan with the use of a special postmark was held.

Several types of nominal postage stamps were printed and presented to participants.

In addition, the sale of materials and accessories related to philately and numismatics was organized in the kiosks of Azermerka LLC and Num.az LLC.

Azermarka LLC of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies awarded 7 people with a gold commemorative medal, 5 people with a silver commemorative medal, 5 people with a bronze commemorative medal, 3 people with diplomas for their presentation of collections at the V National Philatelic Exhibition.
