52% of households in Azerbaijan have access to broadband internet
Within the framework of the “Online Azerbaijan” project implemented by the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport, about 700 thousand households gained access to broadband internet in 10 months of 2023.A total of roughly 1.5 million households have been provided with broadband internet. This represents 52% of existing households in the country. It is planned to increase this figure to 60% by the end of this year.
The project will build a broadband network covering most regions of the country with a minimum internet speed of 25 Mbps through the joint efforts of a number of telecoms operators based on a public-private partnership model.
Thus, work is currently underway to provide cities and villages with high-speed and broadband Internet on the basis of GPON (Gigabit Passive Optical Networks) technology. Using this technology, citizens can connect only to the telephony service, as well as use such packages as Internet+telephony, Internet+television (two in one) and Internet+telephony+television (three in one). Payment is made depending on the tariff package chosen by the subscriber.
It should be noted that work on the above project is planned to be completed by the end of 2024.
