Trilateral meeting of ministers responsible for transport of Azerbaijan, Turkiye and Georgia held

A trilateral meeting of ministers responsible for transport sector of Azerbaijan, Turkiye and Georgia was held in Tbilisi.

 

During the meeting, the issues of wider use of the potential of the Middle Corridor, increasing the capacity of the Baku–Tbilisi–Kars railroad, which is an integral part of this transport artery, and forming a unified tariff policy for transit freight traffic were discussed. During the discussion, the importance of synchronizing joint efforts to ensure stable growth of transit cargo flows was emphasized.

 

The sides exchanged views on the growing interest to the Middle Corridor. Thus, cargo flow increased by 15% in the first half of this year compared to the same period last year.

 

It was pointed out that the demand in the North–West corridor has almost tripled in comparison with the same period last year.

 

It was emphasized at the meeting that Azerbaijan, Turkiye and Georgia have stepped up efforts to increase the capacity of the Baku–Tbilisi–Kars railroad line, which is of vital importance in the Middle Corridor.

 

Confidence was expressed that joint efforts and effective cooperation will allow overcoming difficulties arising in the transport sector.

 

Also, during his visit to Georgia, Minister Rashad Nabiyev held a bilateral meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Levan Davitashvili.

 

During the meeting, the sides discussed the launch of a container block train between the ports of Poti and Batumi and the port of Alat, coordination of schedules, unification of tariffs, and it was agreed that relevant work will be carried out in this direction.
