Deputy Minister of Digital Development & Transport Farid Ahmadov elected to UN Human Rights Committee
Elections to the UN Human Rights Committee for the period 2023-2026 were held in New York on June 17, 2022 as part of the 39th meeting of states parties to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.
Candidates from 17 countries, including Deputy Minister of Digital Development and Transport of the Republic of Azerbaijan Farid Ahmadov competed for nine vacancies on the Committee.
In the voting in which 173 countries participated, the candidate from Azerbaijan was elected as a member of the Committee receiving 94 votes.
It should be noted that established in 1993, the UN Human Rights Committee monitors the implementation of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights by its states parties and is one of the main international mechanisms for the protection of human rights at a global level.
It is the first time that a representative of Azerbaijan has been elected as a member of the UN Human Rights Committee of 18 members.
