BSEC Working Group on Transport holds meeting

A meeting of the Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC) working group on transport was held in Baku today. The meeting was attended by responsible representatives of relevant agencies of Azerbaijan, Turkey, Russia, Ukraine, Greece, Georgia, Moldova, Romania and Bulgaria.

 

The event discussed a number of issues such as the signing of memorandums of understanding on cooperation of the BSEC Member States in the field of transport, coordinating the development of the Black Sea Ring Highway, the development of shipping lanes, simplification of transportation methods of goods and appointing transport representatives to the working group.

 

Moreover, the Memorandum of Understanding proposed by the Russian Federation on the development of multimodal freight and passenger ferry lines in the BSEC member countries was also discussed. In addition, the meeting considered the cooperation with international organizations.

 

In conclusion, a decision was made on the application of decisions, resolutions and recommendations by the Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs, and meeting report was adopted.

 

The event will continue its work with a ministerial meeting tomorrow. Minister of Transport and Infrastructure of Turkey Mehmet Cahit Turhan will also attend the meeting, which will be chaired by  Minister of Transport, Communications and High Technologies of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ramin Guluzade. Other countries will be represented at the level of deputy ministers.

 

It should be noted that Azerbaijan has been one of the founders of the BSEC since 1992. The organization has 12 permanent members and 17 observers and it is headquartered in Istanbul (Turkey).

 

Azerbaijan within the BSEC cooperates with other members on the basis of mutual interests in a number of priority areas, including trade, customs, transport, energy, environment, information and communication technologies, scientific research etc.
