Security measures tightened in the Caspian Sea due to severe weather conditions

The State Maritime Agency under the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies warns of severe weather conditions in the waters of the Caspian Sea.

 

According to information on dangerous hydrometeorological hazards received by the National Center for Long Range Identification and Tracking of Ships, on the evening of February 23 in the Caspian Sea – in Baku and the Absheron Peninsula a strong northwest wind is expected at a speed of 18-23 m / s, with  gusts up to 25-30 m / s, and on February 24 in some parts of the peninsula the wind will increase up to 32-35 m / s, there will be a blizzard, the temperature will gradually decrease by 5-10 degrees compared to previous days. Wave height at sea will be 2 - 4 meters, and in the next development it is expected to reach 5.5 - 7.5 meters.

 

From the moment the weather forecast was received by the National Center of the State Maritime Agency, shipowners, port masters, port control inspectors have been instructed to take appropriate measures and enhance their service. Due to the deteriorating weather conditions, necessary information and instructions were given to vessels anchored in the territory of the Ship Traffic Management Service. In accordance with the weather conditions, a safe shelter was provided for the ships at anchor.

 

After the ships are placed in the appropriate anchor shelters, the process of their safe stopping at anchor is monitored continuously by radars.

 

The National Center for Long Range Identification and Tracking of Ships has taken appropriate measures to issue permits for vessel traffic and access to ports in accordance with weather conditions, traffic restrictions and closing of ports.
